Dating apps on a Mac in 2026: what works on a computer and what doesn't
Which dating apps work on a Mac in 2026? Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Grindr, Match and Plenty of Fish checked against their help centers, plus the official workarounds.
The short answer
- None of the big dating apps has a Mac app as of October 2026, but Tinder, Match and Plenty of Fish work in a web browser, and Grindr Web works for paying XTRA and Unlimited subscribers.
- Hinge has no web version, and Bumble discontinued its web app in October 2025, so both are phone-only.
- For phone-only apps, Apple's iPhone Mirroring is the only official way to use them from a Mac; it isn't available in the EU and can't use your iPhone's camera or microphone.
- Tinder, Hinge and Bumble all restrict third-party tools that connect to your account, so check the rules before using any app that brings dating chats to your desktop.
As of October 2026, none of the big dating apps has a Mac app, but several work on a Mac in a web browser: Tinder at tinder.com, Match at match.com, Plenty of Fish at pof.com, and Grindr Web for paying XTRA and Unlimited subscribers. Hinge has no web version and Bumble shut its web app in October 2025, so both are phone-only; for those, Apple’s iPhone Mirroring is the only official way to use them from a Mac (and it isn’t available in the EU).
Below is a status table checked against each app’s own help center and App Store listing on 20 October 2026, then how to make browser dating apps behave like Mac apps, how to reach phone-only apps from your Mac, and what the rules say about tools that bring dating chats to your desktop.
Which dating apps work on a Mac?
Here’s the status of each app we could verify from its own pages. “Mac app” means a native app or an iPhone app offered in the Mac App Store.
| App | Mac app? | Works in a browser? | What to know | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tinder | No | Yes, tinder.com, in the latest Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge | Swiping, matching, chat, profile and subscriptions work; Group Hangouts on the web only continues group chats | Tinder |
| Hinge | No | No | iPhone (iOS 17 or later) and Android (10 or later) only; ignore “app.hinge.co”, which redirected away from Hinge when we checked | Hinge Help Center |
| Bumble | No | No, discontinued in October 2025 | Signing in on the web now prompts you to download the app | Bumble Support |
| Grindr | No | Yes, Grindr Web, for XTRA and Unlimited subscribers only | You can’t create an account, video chat or manage your subscription on the web | Grindr Help |
| Match | No | Yes, match.com | Read receipts (a Platinum and Diamond feature) show only for your most recent message in each thread on the web | Match Help |
| Plenty of Fish | No | Yes, pof.com | Unblocking someone only works on the website | POF Help |
We couldn’t confirm the current desktop status of other apps (such as OkCupid, Feeld or Raya) from their own help pages on 20 October 2026, so check their sites directly before relying on a third-party guide.
For the three apps people ask about most, we have full guides: Tinder on a Mac, Hinge on a computer and Bumble on a computer.
Why are most dating apps phone-first?
Mostly because their key features depend on the phone. Bumble’s own explanation for closing its web app is a good summary: the app has real-time push notifications, selfie verification, in-app voice and video calls and more accurate location matching (Bumble Support). Even where a web version exists, some features stay on the phone: on tinder.com you can continue Group Hangouts chats but not start one, and Grindr’s web version leaves out video chat, message translation and saved phrases.
How do you make a browser dating app feel like a Mac app?
Three settings turn a browser tab into something close to an app. They work for Tinder, Match, Plenty of Fish and Grindr Web.
- Allow location. Dating sites need your location to show people near you. In Safari, go to Safari → Settings → Websites → Location and allow the site. Grindr also needs pop-ups allowed.
- Allow notifications for the site in your browser, then turn them on in the dating app’s own settings.
- Add it to your Dock. In Safari, open the site, click Share in the toolbar, choose Add to Dock, then Add. The site gets its own Dock icon, and it can send notifications like other apps.
If you share your Mac, keep dating sites in your own macOS user account and log out when you’re done. Grindr Web, for example, logs you out after 15 minutes of inactivity unless you turn on Stay Logged In.
How do you use a phone-only dating app from a Mac?
Use Apple’s iPhone Mirroring, which shows your iPhone’s screen in a window on your Mac and lets you use any of its apps, Hinge and Bumble included, with your keyboard and trackpad. It needs a Mac with Apple silicon (or the T2 chip) on macOS Sequoia 15 or later, an iPhone on iOS 18 or later, the same Apple Account on both, and your iPhone locked and nearby (Apple).
Two limits matter for dating apps: iPhone Mirroring is currently unavailable in the European Union, and your iPhone’s camera and microphone don’t work through it, so selfie verification, voice notes and video calls stay on the phone.
We don’t cover Android emulators or third-party “dating app for PC” downloads. They’re unofficial, and for most people iPhone Mirroring or the website does the job.
Can you keep all your dating chats in one place on a Mac?
Partly. As of October 2026, the best-known unified inbox, Beeper, lists 16 chat networks and no dating apps; we compare it with the other options in how to combine WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram and Instagram in one Mac app.
Tera Chat, our Mac app, is built for this: it puts Tinder chats in the same inbox as iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram, so a match who moves to Instagram or WhatsApp stays in the same list. We’ve tried to be fair here, so here’s exactly what it covers and what it doesn’t:
| Dating app | In Tera Chat (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Tinder | Live: read chats, send text replies, see new matches |
| Hinge | Beta and read-only: you see conversations but reply in the Hinge app; needs a one-time setup |
| Bumble | Not available yet; listed as coming soon, with no date |
| Grindr, Match, Plenty of Fish | Not supported |
How Tinder connects: Tera Chat opens tinder.com in a private, isolated browser window after you confirm with Touch ID or your Mac password; you sign in there and click Sync History. Google Chrome, Brave or Microsoft Edge must be installed for that window. The sign-in stays on your Mac.
What AI does, and doesn’t: with a Tera Chat AI plan (or your own ChatGPT account through Codex), Tera Chat can suggest openers based on a match’s own bio and prompts, and drafts when a chat goes quiet. You read every draft, rewrite it in your own words and send it yourself; preparing openers doesn’t send anything.
The rules risk: Tera Chat connects to your Tinder account (and Hinge, in beta), so it is the kind of third-party tool those apps’ terms cover, and using it carries a risk to your account. That’s covered in the next section.
What do dating apps’ rules say about desktop tools?
All three big apps restrict tools that connect to your account, whether or not they use AI:
- Tinder (Terms of Use effective 5 March 2026, section 2c, item 22) bans using third-party apps or services that directly interact with Tinder without written consent, “including but not limited to artificial intelligence or machine learning systems” (Tinder Terms).
- Hinge (Terms effective 25 August 2025) uses the same wording, and also bans content that “was not written by you or was automatically generated, unless expressly authorized by Hinge” (Hinge Terms).
- Bumble’s Community Guidelines ban unauthorized automated behaviors, including “automations that may interact with profiles or messages” (Bumble).
Using a dating app’s own website is fine; that’s the service itself. Extensions and apps that sign in to your account to read, swipe or send are what these clauses are about. Our guide to whether it’s against Tinder’s rules to use AI covers what counts on each app.
The short version
On a Mac, use Tinder, Match, Plenty of Fish or Grindr Web in a browser and add them to your Dock. For Hinge and Bumble, use your phone, or iPhone Mirroring if you’re outside the EU. Ignore “web versions” of phone-only apps from unknown sites. And for the rest of your chats on the same Mac, start with the best messaging apps for Mac in 2026.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best dating app to use on a Mac?
Tinder is the most complete on a computer among the big swipe apps, because tinder.com runs in any major browser. Match and Plenty of Fish also have full websites, and on Plenty of Fish, unblocking someone only works on the website.
Can I use Hinge or Bumble on my MacBook?
Not directly. Neither has a web, Mac or iPad version as of October 2026. Apple's iPhone Mirroring lets you use the apps on your iPhone from your Mac, outside the EU.
Can I download iPhone dating apps onto an Apple silicon Mac?
Only if the developer offers them in the Mac App Store. The App Store listings for Tinder, Hinge and Bumble don't include a Mac version as of October 2026.
Is there one app for all my dating chats on a Mac?
Tera Chat puts Tinder chats, and Hinge in a read-only beta, next to iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram on a Mac. Bumble isn't available yet, and dating apps' terms restrict tools like this, so read the rules first.
