Tera Chat AI plans explained: Plus, Pro and Max compared

Tera Chat itself is free, with no time limit; the paid part is optional built-in AI. Every plan includes every built-in AI feature: replies in your style, Tinder openers and replies, date ideas, summaries and chat Q&A, and Autopilot. AI Plus costs $9.99 a month ($99.99 a year) and runs Autopilot in up to 5 chats; AI Pro, $19.99 a month ($199.99 a year), has twice Plus’s AI allowance and runs Autopilot in every chat; AI Max, $49.99 a month (monthly only), has five times Plus’s allowance. A plan starts as soon as you check out and you can cancel anytime, or you can skip plans entirely by using your ChatGPT account (through Codex) or a Claude or Grok API key.

What’s free in Tera Chat, and what costs money?

Everything except built-in AI is free. You can use AI for free too, if you bring your own account.

Every plan has the same features: replies in your style, Tinder openers and replies, date ideas, summaries, Ask about this chat, life events and Autopilot. What changes is how much AI you get each month, and how many chats Autopilot runs in. All three run on Anthropic’s Claude, with nothing to install or configure. Yearly billing on Plus and Pro works out to two months free. The upgrade screen marks AI Pro as recommended.

What is the “AI allowance”?

Each plan includes a monthly amount of AI use; Pro gets twice Plus’s and Max five times. Tera Chat doesn’t express it as a number of messages, so the easiest way to keep track is the meter:

• Settings → Tera Chat AI shows AI used this month as a percentage.
• At 80% or more, a banner shows how much of this month’s AI you’ve used.
• At 100%, a banner says this month’s AI is used up and gives the date it refills.
• Automatic background work (like summaries after every 10 new messages) is held to half your allowance, so there’s always room for what you ask for yourself. If it hits that line, Tera Chat says “Automatic AI work is paused to save your allowance for what you ask for.”

Which plan should you choose?

Pick by what you’ll actually use, not by the biggest allowance.

• No plan: if you already have a ChatGPT account (Codex is included even on ChatGPT’s Free plan, within its limits), connecting it through Codex gives you the AI features, Tinder drafts included, at no extra cost within your ChatGPT plan’s limits (OpenAI). See use your ChatGPT account or a Claude or Grok API key.
• AI Plus: you want every AI feature without managing an AI account: drafts in your style, Tinder openers and date ideas, summaries and Ask about this chat, and Autopilot in up to 5 chats. If you’ll use it on Tinder, Tinder’s and Hinge’s terms restrict third-party apps that connect to your account, so read how Tera Chat works with dating apps and the dating apps’ rules first.
• AI Pro: you want Autopilot in every chat, not just 5, or you simply use AI a lot. Tera Chat Autopilot explains what it does before you pay for it.
• AI Max: you use AI heavily and want the largest allowance, five times Plus’s.

When does a plan start?

As soon as you finish checkout. That’s when you’re charged and when built-in AI turns on. The plan renews every month or year, as you chose, until you cancel. You can cancel anytime: the plan keeps working until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and you aren’t charged again.

How do you start a plan?

1. Click the gold Upgrade button at the bottom of the rail (it opens with AI Pro selected), or open Settings → Tera Chat AI and click See plans.
2. Choose Monthly or Yearly (the yearly switch shows “2 months free”) and pick a plan.
3. Click the button for your plan (for example Get AI Pro). Checkout opens in your web browser and is handled by Stripe.
4. Finish checkout. Back in Tera Chat you’ll see Tera Chat AI is on, and the rail shows your plan instead of Upgrade.

How do you cancel, change plan or get a refund?

• Cancel or change plan: open Settings → Tera Chat AI → Manage subscription (“Change plan, update your card or cancel.”), or manage your order at link.com. You can cancel any time; you keep your plan until the end of the period you’ve paid for and aren’t charged again.
• Refund: email hello@terachat.co within 14 days of a charge, monthly or yearly, for a full refund. A refund also ends that plan straight away.

What happens to your messages with a plan?

With a Tera Chat AI plan, the text AI works on goes to Anthropic’s Claude through Tera Chat’s server, which passes it on and doesn’t keep it. Your inbox itself stays on your Mac and is never uploaded to a Tera Chat server. Some AI features run in the background once AI is set up (a summary after every 10 new messages, a daily check for life events, the Sunday digest); you can pause them in Settings → Pipelines. A Claude Pro subscription doesn’t include API use, because Anthropic bills its API separately (Anthropic). Claude Max and Team plans do include monthly API credits that a key can draw on; the own-AI guide explains how.
