Beeper review 2026: what it does well, and where it falls short
Our Beeper review for October 2026: networks, platforms, privacy, Beeper Plus pricing, the Texts.com merger, its light AI, and who it's best for.
The short answer
- Beeper is the strongest unified inbox for breadth in October 2026: 16 networks on its help-center list and apps for Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iPhone, iPad and Android.
- Its privacy model is careful: on-device connections keep chat history off Beeper's servers, and older Cloud connections store it with zero-access encryption.
- Its weak spots are light AI (you can tag @ChatGPT in a chat, but it doesn't draft replies in your style), no dating apps, and iMessage that works only in the Mac app.
- The free plan covers five accounts, one per network; Beeper Plus costs $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year as of 20 October 2026.
- Texts.com is now part of Beeper: Texts no longer accepts new users, and Texts Personal subscribers moved to Beeper Plus.
Beeper is the best choice in 2026 if you want one inbox for lots of networks on every device. It connects the 16 networks on its help-center list (from WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram to Slack, Discord and iMessage on a Mac), runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iPhone, iPad and Android, keeps chat history on your device for most networks, and is free for up to five accounts. It falls short on AI (you can tag @ChatGPT in a chat, but it won’t draft replies in your style), on dating apps (none), and on iMessage, which works only in the Mac app. Beeper Plus costs $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year as of 20 October 2026.
This review covers what Beeper does well, where it falls short, whether Plus is worth paying for, how the Texts.com merger shaped it, its privacy model and who it suits. Disclosure: Tera Chat for Mac, a competing inbox, is our app; we’ve tried to be fair, and we say where others are the better pick. Every Beeper fact below comes from Beeper’s own website, help center and blog, checked on 20 October 2026. We didn’t install Beeper for this review, so we make no claims about its speed or reliability.

What Beeper does well
Beeper’s strengths are breadth, devices and a privacy model that has improved a lot since 2025.
The most networks in one merged list
Sixteen networks is more than any other merged inbox we’ve looked at for the Mac. Signal, Slack, Discord, LinkedIn, Google Messages, WeChat, LINE and Viber all land in the same conversation list as WhatsApp and Telegram. Tab apps like Franz load more services, but each in its own tab rather than one list. If your contacts are scattered across many apps, nothing else we checked covers as much ground in one inbox.
Every device, in sync
Beeper runs on Mac (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iPhone, iPad and Android, and your subscription follows your account to every device. For people who switch between a work PC, a personal Mac and a phone, this is the main reason to choose it. The one exception is iMessage, covered below.
Careful about where your messages go
Since “the new Beeper” launched on 16 July 2025, most networks use on-device connections: your device talks to WhatsApp or Signal directly, and Beeper’s FAQ says “Messages never touch our servers.” Older Beeper Cloud connections run on Beeper’s servers but store your history with zero-access encryption, using a Recovery Code that Beeper says is never transmitted to it. The bridges behind every connection are open source, you can self-host them, and Beeper is part of Automattic’s bug bounty program on HackerOne.
Tools for a busy inbox
Beeper has added a steady stream of organising features. Its August 2026 update brought Merge Chats (one person’s chats from several apps shown as one conversation), Labels for separate spaces such as work or family, polls and CarPlay on iPhone. Plus also includes Send Later, Chat Reminders and Incognito Mode, which lets you read messages without sending a read receipt. Beeper’s CEO says on texts.com that the team ships “new releases every week.”
For people who build things
The Beeper Desktop API and MCP server, in public beta, runs entirely on your computer and lets tools like Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor work with your chats on 12 networks, from WhatsApp and Signal to Slack and Discord. Beeper labels it experimental.
A simple business model
Beeper shows no ads on any plan, says its core features will always stay free, and makes money from optional subscriptions. Yearly plans include two free months, and since August 2026 everyone gets a few free uses of most Plus features before deciding to pay.
Where Beeper falls short
Most of Beeper’s weak points come from trying to be a general-purpose chat app for every network, rather than a deep one for a few.
The AI is light
Beeper’s plans FAQ lists two AI features: “AI in Chats”, which lets you tag @ChatGPT or @Apple Intelligence inside a conversation on Beeper Desktop, and voice-note transcription. Both are Plus features, though free users get a few transcriptions to try. Its help center doesn’t describe drafting replies in your style, summarizing a long thread, or reminding you about chats you forgot to answer. If AI help with replies is why you want a unified inbox, Beeper isn’t built for it.
iMessage is Mac-only, and stays on that Mac
Beeper’s iMessage guide says it connects “by securely automating the Messages app on your Mac.” It asks for Accessibility, Contacts, Messages data and Automation permissions (and suggests Full Disk Access if it still can’t read your messages), opens Messages in the background, and warns that Messages “may still become briefly visible or flash occasionally.” Your iMessage chats also “only live on the Beeper Desktop for Mac app where the connection was established,” so they won’t appear in Beeper on your phone or PC. Before granting these permissions, it’s worth reading what Full Disk Access allows.
The free plan fills up fast
Free allows five accounts and only one per network, so a personal and a work WhatsApp already need Plus. Some networks connect only through Beeper Cloud, including Google Messages, Discord, LINE and Google Chat, and those allow one account per network on every plan.
Some things still need the original app
Beeper supports reactions, replies, group chats, media, stickers and disappearing messages, but its FAQ says that for features like video calls “you will need to open the native chat app.” Feature support also varies by network.
No dating apps
Tinder, Hinge and Bumble aren’t on Beeper’s network list, so dating chats stay in their own apps.
Beeper Plus and Plus Plus: are they worth paying for?
Plus is worth it once you outgrow five accounts or want a second account on the same network; it isn’t worth buying for the AI alone. Prices as of 20 October 2026.
| Free | Plus | Plus Plus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $9.99/month or $99.99/year | $49.99/month or $499.99/year |
| Accounts | 5 total, 1 per network | 10 total, 3 per network | Unlimited |
| Merged Chats | Not stated | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Labels, Send Later, Reminders, Incognito Mode | A few free uses | Yes | Yes |
| Voice-note transcription | A few free uses | Yes | Yes |
| AI in Chats (desktop) | No | Yes | Yes |
| Priority support | No | No | Yes |
A 7-day free trial is offered on Beeper Desktop and Android. Extra accounts on the same network work only on on-device connections. Refunds are handled case by case, and you keep paid features until the end of the billing period if you cancel.
Texts.com is now part of Beeper
Beeper today is partly the old Texts app. Automattic announced it had acquired Texts, founded and led by Kishan Bagaria, on 24 October 2023. On texts.com, Kishan (now Beeper’s CEO) adds that in 2024 “we acquired Beeper,” and that the two teams, products and technology were merged. The new Beeper, with on-device connections and paid plans, launched on 16 July 2025.
For Texts users, Beeper’s transition guide sets out what happened:
- Texts Personal became Beeper Plus at $9.99 a month, down from $15.
- Texts for Work became Beeper Plus Plus, and Texts student subscribers got Plus for the rest of their term.
- Texts free users got 10 accounts (3 on one network), reminders, scheduled send, custom icons and incognito mode, which replaced Texts’ “Stealth Mode.”
- Texts.com no longer accepts new registrations; existing users can still log in to see past invoices.
Our article on what happened to Texts.com has the full dated timeline.
Is Beeper private and safe?
For privacy, Beeper is one of the more careful unified inboxes. For account safety, it carries the same risk as every app that connects to WhatsApp or Instagram unofficially.
- Your messages: on-device connections keep chat history, attachments and reactions off Beeper’s servers; metadata such as archive status syncs between your devices with zero-access encryption. Cloud connections keep an encrypted copy that Beeper says it can’t decrypt.
- What Beeper collects: its FAQ lists device information (operating system, hardware, public IP address, network routing information and app details) and your account email for sign-in.
- Your accounts: Beeper isn’t affiliated with WhatsApp, Meta or the other networks, and their terms restrict unofficial software. Beeper’s own help center, for example, explains Instagram’s “We suspect automated behavior” warning as usually a security checkpoint rather than a ban.
Our guide to whether all-in-one messaging apps are safe compares these risks across Beeper, Tera Chat and the tab apps.
Who is Beeper best for?
Beeper is the right pick if:
- Your contacts are spread across Signal, Slack, Discord, Google Messages, WeChat, LINE or Viber as well as WhatsApp and Telegram.
- You switch between a phone and a computer, or use Windows or Linux.
- You care about open-source connections and the option to self-host.
- You were a Texts user: your subscription already moved here.
Here’s how Beeper compares with three other Mac options we checked on the same day:
| Beeper | Tera Chat for Mac | NOX | Franz 6 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kind of app | Merged inbox | Merged inbox | AI inbox | Each service in its own tab |
| Networks | 16 incl. Signal, Slack, Discord, iMessage (Mac) | 5: iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Tinder; Hinge beta (read-only) | 10 incl. iMessage, Slack, Signal, email | 75+ services, no iMessage |
| Runs on | Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iPhone, iPad, Android | Apple silicon Mac, macOS 15+ | Apple silicon Mac, macOS 14+ | Mac, Windows, Linux |
| AI | Tag @ChatGPT in a chat; transcription | Drafts in your style, summaries, relationship insights | Drafts in your voice, triage | Assistant, smart snippets, translation |
| Free plan | 5 accounts | Every network (1 WhatsApp, up to 3 Instagram accounts) | 10 AI drafts | 3 services |
| Lowest paid plan | $9.99/month | $9.99/month (AI Plus) | $50/month, billed annually | $60/year |
Look elsewhere if:
- You want AI that drafts replies in your style, or Tinder in the same inbox, on a Mac. Tera Chat for Mac, our app, puts iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Tinder in one free inbox and drafts replies that sound like you; it needs an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 15 or later and doesn’t support Signal, Messenger, Slack or Discord. Tinder’s terms restrict third-party apps that connect to your account, AI included, and Tera Chat is that kind of tool, so read what Tinder’s rules say about AI first. Our Tera Chat vs Beeper comparison goes through every difference.
- You want your work tools in tabs (Slack, Teams, email): Franz, Rambox or Ferdium. Our list of Beeper alternatives compares them.
- You don’t want any unofficial connection: stick with each network’s official app.
The verdict
Beeper is the most complete unified inbox we checked in October 2026: 16 networks, every major device, on-device connections, open-source bridges and a free plan that covers a lot of people. Its gaps are AI that stops at tagging a chatbot, no dating apps, iMessage confined to one Mac, and a five-account free tier. If you need many networks or a phone app, use Beeper, and pay for Plus only when you run out of accounts.
How we reviewed Beeper
On 20 October 2026 we read Beeper’s home page, FAQ, Plus page, download page and changelog; its help-center articles on networks, plans, the Texts transition, iMessage on macOS and Instagram connection problems; its July 2025 and August 2026 blog posts; the Desktop API page; texts.com; and its App Store listing. We didn’t install or test Beeper, and we haven’t verified individual user complaints.
Frequently asked questions
Is Beeper free?
Yes, for up to five accounts with one per network, and Beeper shows no ads. Beeper Plus ($9.99 a month or $99.99 a year) raises that to 10 accounts, with up to 3 on the same network.
Is Beeper safe to use?
For privacy, its on-device connections keep chat history off Beeper's servers, and Cloud connections are stored with zero-access encryption. For your accounts, Beeper connects to WhatsApp, Instagram and others unofficially, like every unified inbox, so those services could flag or restrict an account.
Does Beeper have AI?
A little. On Beeper Desktop, Plus subscribers can tag @ChatGPT or @Apple Intelligence in a chat, and Plus transcribes voice notes. Beeper's help center doesn't describe drafting replies in your style or summarizing chats.
Does Beeper work with iMessage?
Only in the Mac app. Beeper automates the Messages app on your Mac, and those iMessage chats stay in that Mac's Beeper app rather than appearing on your phone.
What happened to Texts.com?
Automattic bought Texts in 2023 and Beeper in 2024, then merged them. Texts.com no longer accepts new users, and Texts Personal subscribers moved to Beeper Plus at $9.99 a month.
Does Beeper support Tinder or Hinge?
No dating apps are on Beeper's network list. Tera Chat for Mac supports Tinder, with Hinge in beta (read-only).
