Beeper alternatives for Mac (2026): 9 honest options
The best Beeper alternatives for Mac in October 2026, compared on iMessage, networks, dating apps, AI and price, plus when you should stay with Beeper.
The short answer
- Tera Chat is the closest Beeper alternative on a Mac if you want iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram plus Tinder in one list, with AI that drafts replies in your style.
- Ferdium is the best free and open-source alternative, but it shows each service as a separate tab and can't show iMessage.
- Franz 6 and Rambox 3 are tab apps for work services that now include AI. Amber is a free, lighter inbox for iMessage, WhatsApp and Telegram; NOX (from the makers of RPLY) drafts replies across work networks for $50 a month billed yearly; ChatGPT's Apple Messages plugin covers iMessage only.
- Stay with Beeper if you need Signal, Messenger, Slack or Discord, or want your inbox on Windows, an iPhone or Android: no Mac alternative matches its 16 networks and six platforms.
The best Beeper alternative for a Mac depends on why you’re leaving. If you want dating apps and AI that drafts replies alongside iMessage and WhatsApp, Tera Chat is the closest swap; if you want free and open source, Ferdium; if you mostly juggle work apps, Franz 6 or Rambox 3. But stay with Beeper if you rely on Signal, Messenger, Slack or Discord, or need your inbox on Windows, an iPhone or Android: in October 2026 nothing on this list matches its mix of 16 merged networks and six platforms.
This page covers what you’d give up by leaving Beeper, nine alternatives with a “best for” and “not for” line each, a network-by-network table, and how to switch without losing chats. Tera Chat is our app; we’ve tried to be fair, and we say where others are the better pick. Every fact below comes from each company’s own site, help center or release notes, checked on 20 October 2026.
What does Beeper offer in October 2026?
Beeper is a free unified inbox owned by Automattic that merges about 16 chat networks into one list on almost every device. Before switching, know what you’d be leaving.
| Beeper, October 2026 | |

| Dating apps | None |

Why do people look for a Beeper alternative?
Usually for one of five reasons, all visible in Beeper’s own documentation:
- The free plan’s account cap. Free covers five accounts and one per network, so a second WhatsApp or Instagram account means paying for Plus.
- Light AI. Beeper’s AI lets you ask ChatGPT or Apple Intelligence something inside a chat and transcribes voice notes. Its help center doesn’t describe drafting replies in your style, chat summaries or alerts when a friendship is going quiet.
- No dating apps. Tinder, Hinge and Bumble aren’t on Beeper’s list.
- How iMessage works. Beeper controls the Messages app in the background, needs Accessibility permission, and its guide warns that Messages “may still become briefly visible or flash occasionally”.
- It isn’t a native Mac app. Beeper Desktop is built on Electron (version 41.2.0 with a 678 MB Windows install, per Desktop Insights). Some Mac users simply prefer native apps.
One reason that won’t go away by switching: networks can challenge or restrict accounts that sign in through unofficial clients, and that applies to every app below that connects WhatsApp, Instagram or Tinder. Our guide to whether all-in-one messaging apps are safe covers what that means for your accounts.

1. Tera Chat: best for iMessage plus dating apps, with AI drafts
Tera Chat is a free Mac app that brings iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Tinder into one inbox and drafts replies in your own texting style. It connects differently from Beeper, which drives the Messages app itself (with Accessibility, Messages data and Automation permissions): Tera Chat reads your Messages history on your Mac with Full Disk Access (here’s what that permission allows) and hands outgoing messages to Messages. It links to WhatsApp as a linked device (one WhatsApp account), signs in to Instagram inside the app (up to three accounts), and opens Telegram and Tinder in a private browser window. The AI goes past chatting with a bot: summaries, questions about a chat, a different tone per tag (family, colleague, crush), plus alerts for fading chats and questions you never answered. Your messages stay on your Mac.
- Best for: Apple silicon Mac users whose chats are spread across iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and Tinder.
- Not for: Signal, Messenger, Slack, Discord or LinkedIn users, or anyone who needs Windows, iPhone or Android; Tera Chat is Mac-only.
- Price: the inbox is free. AI is free with your own ChatGPT account or a Claude or Grok API key (Instagram and Tinder drafts need ChatGPT or a Tera Chat plan), or built in from $9.99 a month (AI Plus).
- Know this: Tinder’s and Hinge’s terms restrict third-party apps that connect to your account, AI included, and Tera Chat is one. Read what Tinder’s rules say about AI first. Hinge is beta and read-only; Bumble is coming soon.

2. Ferdium: best free and open-source alternative
Ferdium is a community-built, Apache-2.0 app that loads each service’s website in its own tab, with workspaces and no account required. Version 7.2.3 shipped on 7 September 2026, and it has a Tinder “recipe” that opens tinder.com in a tab.
- Best for: people who want everything free and inspectable.
- Not for: one merged inbox, iMessage, or AI.
3. Franz 6: best tab app with built-in AI
Franz loads 75+ services in tabs, with Signal built in as a native sub-app. Franz 6 adds conversation summaries, smart replies, voice transcription and an assistant, using an on-device model, your own AI key, or Franz’s EU cloud (pricing).
- Best for: Slack, Teams, email and WhatsApp Web users who want AI help without a separate chatbot.
- Not for: iMessage, or anyone wanting more than three services free.
4. Rambox 3: best for juggling work accounts
Rambox runs unlimited web apps, with workspaces and multiple logins per service on its Pro plan. Rambox 3, released 6 October 2026, added an AI side panel that opens Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini with your own sign-in; you can switch it off.
- Best for: freelancers and agencies with many accounts of the same service.
- Not for: a personal chat inbox or iMessage.
5. Wavebox: best browser-style workspace
Wavebox is a Chromium browser built around web apps and multiple sign-ins, pitched at work tools like Slack, Teams and Gmail, with an optional AI assistant called Brainbox.
- Best for: people who live in web apps all day.
- Not for: chats from your phone’s messaging apps.
6. Amber: a free, lighter inbox for iMessage, WhatsApp and Telegram
Amber, from Perilla Labs, calls itself an “AI-enabled all-in-one messenger and personal CRM”. It puts iMessage, WhatsApp and Telegram in one place and adds split inboxes, send-later and reminders, a command bar, light CRM notes, optional AI reply suggestions and search, and a “Ninja Mode” that only marks messages as read when you choose. Its site says messages are stored on your device and go straight from it to each network. It’s a free download for macOS, with Windows and Linux versions announced but not out.
- Best for: people who want iMessage, WhatsApp and Telegram together in a free, keyboard-driven Mac app with light CRM features.
- Not for: Instagram, Signal, Slack or dating apps. Its one-page site lists no prices, system requirements or privacy policy, and doesn’t say how it connects to iMessage (checked 20 October 2026), so you’re taking more on trust than with the apps above.
7. NOX (from the makers of RPLY): best AI drafting across work networks
NOX is a Mac “AI inbox” that brings iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack, Telegram, Signal, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Discord and email together and drafts replies in your tone, with an optional 100% on-device AI mode (NOX vs Beeper). It comes from the same company as RPLY, whose site uses heynox.com contact addresses and still sells the RPLY Mac app: same 10 networks, messages stored locally, and a promise that it never sends without you.
- Best for: professionals who want drafts across Slack, email, LinkedIn and iMessage.
- Not for: dating apps, or a tight budget. As of 20 October 2026, NOX’s pricing page shows Pro at $50 a month billed annually, with a free tier whose limits it doesn’t list; RPLY’s site lists 10 free drafts and Pro at $25 a month or $300 a year (its FAQ also says $30 a month).
- Know this: when we checked on 20 October 2026, heynox.com’s home page redirected to textcaspian.com, a bare page for a product called Caspian with little more than a sign-in link, while the NOX pricing page was still live. Check where things stand before you pay for a year.
8. ChatGPT’s Apple Messages plugin: best for AI on iMessage only
Since August 2026, the ChatGPT Mac app can read, search, draft and send iMessage, SMS and RCS, with your approval by default (9to5Mac). It’s included in ChatGPT plans but only works in ChatGPT’s Work or Codex modes on Apple silicon.
- Best for: people who only need AI help with iMessage.
- Not for: WhatsApp, Telegram or Instagram, or anyone who wants an inbox.
9. The official apps: best if you want nothing unofficial
Messages, WhatsApp for Mac and Telegram for macOS are all native and free, and Safari can turn Instagram, Messenger or Tinder into a Dock app with File → Add to Dock (macOS Sonoma or later).
- Best for: anyone worried about unofficial clients.
- Not for: people who hate switching between five windows.
Which networks does each alternative cover?
Network coverage is where Beeper is hardest to beat. “Tab” means the service’s website opens in its own tab rather than in a shared inbox.
| Network | Beeper | Tera Chat | Amber | Franz 6 | Ferdium or Rambox | NOX / RPLY |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| iMessage | Yes (Mac) | Yes | Yes | No | No | Yes |

Stay with Beeper if…
Beeper is the better pick for many people. Stay if any of these is true:
- You use Signal, Messenger, Slack, Discord, LinkedIn, Google Messages, WeChat or LINE. Tera Chat supports none of them, and the tab apps don’t merge them into one list.
- You want your inbox on Windows, Linux, an iPhone or Android. Beeper runs on all of them; Tera Chat, Amber and NOX are Mac-only.
- You have an Intel Mac or an older macOS. Tera Chat needs Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later.
- You don’t want AI near your messages. Beeper’s AI is opt-in and light; you don’t need it at all.
- You value a longer track record and open-source bridges. Beeper has been around since 2021 and open-sources the integrations behind its connections.
How to switch from Beeper without losing chats
Switching is low-risk because your messages still live in WhatsApp, Instagram and the rest, not in Beeper. Do it in this order:
- Install the new app and connect one network at a time. WhatsApp allows several linked devices at once, so you can run both apps side by side for a week.
- Check that history and sending work for each network in the new app before you disconnect it in Beeper.
- Disconnect accounts in Beeper, then cancel Plus wherever you subscribed (Beeper’s help center says paid plans renew automatically).
- Keep the official apps installed as a fallback, especially for calls and photos.
Texts.com isn’t an option any more: Automattic merged it into Beeper, and what happened to Texts.com explains the timeline. Station, another name in older lists, is discontinued, and its old domain now redirects to a gambling site.
The bottom line
No single app replaces everything Beeper does, so pick by your reason for leaving. For dating apps and AI drafts on a Mac, try Tera Chat. For free and open source, Ferdium. For work tabs with AI, Franz 6 or Rambox 3. For a free, lighter inbox covering iMessage, WhatsApp and Telegram, Amber. For AI drafts across Slack, email and iMessage, NOX or RPLY; for AI on iMessage alone, ChatGPT’s plugin. And if you need lots of networks or a phone app, Beeper is still the best tool for the job.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Beeper?
Yes. Tera Chat's inbox is free (on Apple silicon Macs only), Amber is a free Mac download for iMessage, WhatsApp and Telegram, and Ferdium is free and open source on Mac, Windows and Linux. Ferdium shows each service in its own tab rather than one merged list, and none of them covers as many networks as Beeper.
Is NOX a good Beeper alternative?
For AI drafts across work networks, it can be: NOX covers 10 networks including iMessage, Slack, LinkedIn and email on a Mac. It costs far more, though: Pro was $50 a month billed yearly on 20 October 2026, against $9.99 a month for Beeper Plus, and it has no dating apps.
Is there an open-source Beeper alternative?
Ferdium is fully open source under the Apache 2.0 licence. Beeper open-sources the integrations behind its connections and some privacy-critical code, but not its apps as a whole.
What's the difference between Beeper and Franz?
Beeper merges chats from different networks into one list and can show iMessage on a Mac. Franz loads each service's website in its own tab, has no iMessage, and adds AI summaries and drafts in Franz 6.
Does any Beeper alternative support Tinder?
Tera Chat puts Tinder chats in the same list as iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram, with Hinge in beta (read-only). Ferdium can open tinder.com in a tab. Beeper supports no dating apps.
Is Texts.com an alternative to Beeper?
Not any more. Automattic merged Texts.com into Beeper, and Texts.com no longer accepts new users.
