How to save a WhatsApp chat as a PDF
- Export the chat from WhatsApp. On iPhone: open the chat, tap the name at the top, then Export Chat and Without Media. On Android: open the chat, tap ⋮, then More, Export chat and Without media.
- Open it here. Choose the .zip or .txt above (on a phone, open this page in the phone's browser and pick the file from Files or Downloads).
- Pick which person is you, so your messages sit on the right like in WhatsApp.
- Click Save as PDF. In the print dialog, set the destination to Save as PDF. On a Mac, use the PDF menu at the bottom left.
The PDF starts with the chat's name, the number of messages and the date range, then every message with its date and time.
What's in the PDF, and what isn't
- In it: every text message in the export, with names, dates and times, and markers where photos, videos, voice notes or files were sent.
- Not in it: the photos and other media themselves, reactions, and messages WhatsApp left out of the export. WhatsApp limits how many recent messages one export includes, so a very long chat can arrive without its oldest messages.
- Search first if you only need part of it. Type in the search box and Save as PDF prints only the matching messages.
Private by design
Most "WhatsApp to PDF" sites ask you to upload the chat to their server. This one doesn't: the page reads the file on your device and your browser makes the PDF. Load the page, switch off Wi-Fi, and it still works. No cookies, no account, nothing saved.

How do I turn a WhatsApp chat into a PDF?
Export the chat from WhatsApp (Export Chat, Without Media), open the .zip or .txt on this page, pick which person is you, and click Save as PDF. Your browser's print dialog opens: choose Save as PDF as the destination (on a Mac, use the PDF menu at the bottom of the dialog).
Is there a message limit?
No. The viewer shows every message in the export, and the PDF includes all of them. WhatsApp itself limits how many recent messages one export includes, so a very long chat can arrive without its oldest messages.
Are photos and voice notes included?
No. The PDF has the text of the chat. Photos, videos, voice notes and files show as placeholders where they were sent.
Is my chat uploaded?
No. The file is read on your own device and the PDF is made by your browser's print dialog. Nothing is uploaded or saved, and the page sets no cookies.
Can I use the PDF as evidence?
The PDF is a readable copy of your export, nothing more. It isn't certified and we don't claim it's accepted as legal evidence. Ask a lawyer what your court or landlord dispute needs.
Does it work for Telegram and Instagram chats too?
Yes. It also opens Telegram Desktop's JSON export and Instagram's JSON download, and it can show the same chat's statistics in the Stats tab.
